Details

Apple’s 800K external 3.5-inch floppy drive, model A9M0106, the drive Apple introduced alongside the Apple IIGS. It works with the IIGS and with Macintosh computers, so one drive covers both. This one comes in its original Apple box with the original foam inserts.

Serviced

• Mechanism: cleaned and lubricated
• Eject gear: replaced with a new one. The original plastic gear cracks with age, which leaves a drive that can’t load or eject disks
• Tested: fully working after service

Where it works

• Apple IIGS: plugs into the disk drive port on the back. The port on the back of the drive takes another drive in a daisy chain
• Macintosh: any Mac with an external DB-19 floppy port that reads 800K disks, such as the Mac 512Ke, Plus, SE and the Mac II series

• Reads and writes 800K double-sided disks, and 400K single-sided Macintosh disks
• Sony auto-eject mechanism: the computer ejects the disk, and there’s a manual eject hole beside the slot
• Attached cable with a DB-19 plug, still with Apple’s original warning tag
• The box shows its age: some stains, old tape and “STORE” handwritten on one end

Before you order

• It takes double-density (DD) disks, not 1.44MB high-density (HD) disks, and it doesn’t read PC disks
